It is a technique which converts standard 2D grayscale image into volumetric data. It is especially useful in evaluation of uterine shape abnormalities (unicornuate uterus/ bicornuate/ septate/ bicorporeal uterus), for detection of intrauterine adhesions/polyps/fibroids, and for any malpositioned intrauterine devices. It is a non-invasive technique and has a very high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing abnormalities.
